Kinetics is the study of movement, if the movement is creative it is called dance, rather than baking, cleaning etc!!!!

Classes in kinetics:
Clarendon College - Nottingham
Foundation course in theatre studies - Summer 1969 - Summer 1970

I first came across kinetics often just referred to as dance when doing a theatre course in Nottingham. The course had elements of acting, speech, sword fencing, lighting, production, theatre design and construction and dance. This is back to the days when someone would be thumping out the music on some old piano in the corner, and the teacher would shout faster, faster etc. Some times we would use pre-recorded music but not often. (I think we only ever used a record as part of a final year production.) So this was my first introduction to movement.

Chorley College of Education - part of Lancaster University - Lancashire
3 year teacher training course. Summer 1970 - Summer 1973

Studied dance as a mains subject (the full three years)
Drams as the secondary subject for the first two years.

In drams we spent half a day a week on it, if I remember rightly a friday afternoon. For the dance we spent a full day every Tuesday dancing as well as Wednesday morning varying between theory and practice. Most of the pictures were taken towards the end of this course.

Woodbrooke College, Selly Oak Colleges - Birmingham
Community Studies - Summer 1973 - Summer 1974

Some how dance got in to this course??? Spent some time teah movement at a local community centre and I don't know how, ended up doing evening epilog 3 times while there(dance). Here is a little something I put together for another website:

As a teenager I first really knew about the spirit within me when I danced. Here was a way at last of stilling the thoughts, questions and reasonings in my head, and just being. My body became alive in responce to the music and my emotions were unlocked. I knewa joy and openness that was new to me.

As an adult I still find spontaneous free movement to music a religous experience; emotions and reactions come from deep within me and not through concious thoughts. To dance in this way with others - meeting and sharing without words but with open receptiveness - is an uplifting experience.

Personally I went on a similar journey and went on to become a movement teacher with a specialization in creative movement ie Dance. Up to recently I have been dancing several times a week in groups where there has been acknowledgement of the spiritual to the extent that there is always an alter for those who feel the need for such things.
As a dyslexic, to be suddenly plunged into a world without any spiritual self expression, to be adrift from your inner self, unable to share who or what you are.
Like going around an art gallery and admiring the pieces on show, you can be amazed at other peoples writtings of spiritualality, but know that you could never start reproduce such things.

the continuing story.
