Going South for the Summer
Day 10, Tuesday 26th July 2011
Robert taking a rest on Dawn as we had moored early in Stone.
Barlaston to Stone.
Few locks today, about 6, all towards the end of the morning. We take it easy, but even by mid day Stone is crowded with boat, we initially in the middle of stone, and have a light lunch and John and Josh do some shopping and scout out a head for better moorings, we end up drop down the last lock in stone, with all the drinkers at the pub at the lock watching.
As we move along a whole line of boats moored up, one is just leaving, so we quickly pull in to the space they have left, and moor up, it is only 13:00 and we have finished for the day.
We have a quick sandwich and a drink, and Josh and John go off to explore the town while I have a rest. They come back having checked out the local pub and decided that we are going to eat out, to celebrate Josh cycling off to morrow, (and make sure he has had at least a good meal to keep him going.) Then I go off to look at Stone, after receiving guidance from Josh and John where I should go.
In fact on walking from the boat, Stone turns out to be quite a charming place, with a pleasant car free area. I get there just in time, before the market started closing down. I also enjoyed a quite coffee and a read of the local paper before heading back.
At about 18:00 we headed back to the pub, brought a round of drinks and looked at the menu. The main reason for choosing the pub was they had seen it was "Pudding Night" where all the pudding are cheap!
After enjoying a cheap two course meal and another round of drinks, we went home. Read, play cards on the computer and bedytime drinks and so to bed.
