Going South for the Summer
Day 24, Tuesday 9th August 2011 - Sue friend joined for the day
Authorley Junction - they are having fun doing a tight turn!
Penkridge to Brewood - Sue friend joined for the day
Late start, as a friend (Shraddhananda) of Sue's is joining us for the day. She finds us with no problem, which is unusual for people to do. We all say hello to each other and then we are off.
The first part of the journey is following the M6, or is it following us, its not to close to be a nuisance during the day, but I don't think I would want to moor up there at night. We are soon at Gailey Warf and like most days during the summer, we are in queues for the locks, the average number of boats, is about 6 to 9 boats, so at 10 minutes a boat, it is quite a wait, but you have a good chat with every one while you are waiting.

Gailey Wharf to Autherley Junction is a very pleasant trip, especially if you consider you are getting closer to Wolverhampton all the time. We pass Calf Heath, then more rural miles before ducking under the M54, and allotments start appearing, but every thing is all rather pleasant. We hit Autherley Junction, there is already one boat tethered by its center rope waiting for the junction to clear, we pull in behind them and wait.
When its our turn, about 10 minutes later, we pull on to the Shroppie (Shropshire Union Canal) through a small stop lock ( in the height the water drops down!) and call in for ice creams! I think we deserve it, and since we are going to try to get to Brewood tonight, we need some thing to keep us going.

We managed to moor up in Brewood, about 19:00, a late stop to day, and we are taken to a rather nice pub for food! Two nights running, I could take a liking to this.
A friend of Sue's friend has come to give her a lift back to her car, and gives us an up date about what's being going on in the out side world - Riots!
So we slowly walk back to the boat, a read and drinks and so to bed.
