Going South for the Summer
Day 27, Friday 12th August 2011 - Sue's Birthday
the locks leading to Audlem.
Market Drayton to Audlem and it's Sue's Birthday so we are having Fish and Chips.
After the usual getting up routine, we have to turn Dawn round as we are facing the wrong direction. We reverse into the boat yard area, and do a bad 180 turn, not very well, and just hope not to many people are watching, there are some very puzzled faces. we are off at last to tackle first two flights of locks for the day. Then we have Adderley Locks a set of 5 followed later by the Audlem flight of 15, but we end up doing only 12 of them today. Must have been hard work today as nobody has taken any pictures?
The main bit of driving today is to Adderley locks. Make it there and through them by early morning, and we are on to the Audlem flight. This is another kettle of fish, not because there are more of them, but because, all the other boats are out, and it is getting very congested. We come out of the 12th lock abd there is Audlem laid out before us, as it has been slow progress due to the congestion it is mid afternoon AND we see a free space to park up in. We pull in and moor up. Audlem is a lovely place even with so many boats causing congestion, (like us). We all take a walk around the village and decied later on we are going to have Fish and Chips as it is Sue's birthday. So later when we are all starting to feel a little hingry we make our way to the Fish and Chip shop and take them back to the boat.
Notes on progress. Passed through: Locks: 5 (before Adderley). Locks: 12 of Audlem flight.
