Going South for the Summer
Day 8, Sunday 24th July 2011
Middlewich to Church Lawton.
The starting routine seems to be: Robert gets up and makes his breakfast and eats it outside. While drinking coffee, check the engine, (Water, oil, fan belt, cables) Start engine, the signal to Josh and John to start to get up!
This morning we soon arrive at Middlewich bottom lock, first of several locks today, after having several days, with very few locks to tackle. Middlewich bottom lock is the last of the large locks we will see for some time now.
Next we glide quickly past Middlewich junction, which if we turned right would take us on to the Middlewich branch of the Shroppie, but we keep to the Trent and Mersey.
The thing about the Trent and Mersey is that we really hit the locks now. For the next hour, we pass non stop continuous fishermen, (Fishing competition) at least they are keeping clear of the lock landing stages and seem to be in good mood, but that could be that the competition has not started yet.
Josh and John spend more of the time walking than ridding on the boat. We tackle some 19 locks today, so they (Josh and John) feel they deserve an early stop, but also it feels a good place to be ready to tackle Harecastle tunnel tomorrow.
17:30 stop tonight, and it is always my turn to cook the tea.
Went for a short walk/doodle around follow the towpath and then the footpath to the church across the field etc. pleasant evening. Read, play cards on the computer and bedytime drinks and so to bed.
Notes on progress. Structures we went through 4 Middlewich locks. About 19 other locks!
Places we go by Middlewich - moored last night. Middlewich Branch. Fishing competition. Under M6. Church Lawton - moor for the night.
