The Homestead
an educational establishment in Leicestershire, near Melton Mowbray.
Group picture out side the front door.
This is where we as a family spent 6 years. For me, I was about 9 (1960) when we arrived and was finishing my fourth year at secondary school when we left (1966). The house was a converted hunting lodge, it is ruputed that the last owner used to keep his horses in side the house, we managed to see it before the wood panelling was removed from some of the rooms. The education authority kept the front of the house as it used to be kept, a large lawn, with rosebeds around the outside and large trees (I think fir) as a back drop against the road out side. There was a large gravel drive sweeping up to the front door, with a turning circle. The back entrance was served with better road which the delivery trucks would use, perticularly delivering the week food supplies, as this was an education establishment, every thing came in school size amounts. We had a look at the outside in the summer 2001, and took some pictures, have a look at the album for them. We had just dropped John of at University in Leicester.
the continuing story.
