When canals meet head on, it means you can not see where one end and the next start, unless they put a sign up. In this case they do, just so you do know. Boats have to have the equivelent of a road tax fee to travel, and if you payed for the Leeds and Liverpool, you have a 2 week transit permission to cross the bridge water, and visa vera. So Leigh is where this change takes place, not that you would notice, nothing changes, the canal looks the same, the scenery does not change, you just feel something should change, prefably for the better.
