This is where Robert spent some 3 years growing up. The building was owned by the local authority education services, and used to give children an experince of the out doors. They would go on walks and explore the local country side, (Roman fort nearby.) Later the Pennine Walk was to come past. My school was a mile or two walk to reach, and in winter you had to follow the local stream to the village as the roads would be blocked.
At the time we were part of the West Ridding but in government reorganisation of boundries it is now part of Greater Manchester.
