A view just outside Alrewas from 2003.
Pub (Weston Hill Farm) to just passed
Alrewas (Between Bridge for A513 and Common Lock)
A slow start to the day, Josh has his routine
now, he stays in bed until he hears the engine start, and only then
does he start moving.
Sue has come back from Birmingham with a
slight infection of her jaw, which gives her a slightly swollen
face, and is leaving her feeling tired at times, so we are glad
to have Josh along with us.

Derby Canal meets the Trent and Mersey Canal

This side of Alrewas there are only a few
locks, so we make good progress, we stop at Burton for fuel again,
and buy a key for the screw down things, (Fuel, Effluent, water)
but it does not fit our Fuel cap, but they kindly machine it
down to fit.
Again another reverse out (have you realised
yet, that "I do not like reversing", as the
boat is inclined to go any way, but the way you want it to. But
to day, some thing is with us, and we go out, and turn in the
direction we want to go.
Burton seems very different from when we
came through, only a week ago, there is very little signs that
there was the festival here. Towards the out skirts we moor up
to the bank for lunch.
After a short lunch, we continue towards
Alrewas. Just be for Alrewas is where the River Trent crosses
the canal on the level, and there are warning signs about not
proceeding if the currents are strong. Going to Shardlow, I had
not noticed how interesting this section is.
We pulled into the last lock before Alrewas,
and it quickly came clear that there would not be much room to
moor in the village. We asended in the lock and slowly motored
through the village, every little corner of the canal was filled
with boats, so we kept going to wards Fradley. In the end we
pulled in not that far from where we had stopped going the other
way.
So food, a little walk and so to bed.
Notes on progress.
