The ups and downs of 2014
The brighter moments we have caught.

At the end of 2013 Sue came back from India, so 2014 should be a normal year for us!
Wintery weather at the bus stop.
January
Crap weather, snow, slush. sleet and rain. Just cold and slippery under foot at present. Good news, Richard might be able to test out his winter tyres?
Train waiting at Haworth on a damp Saturday, waiting to leave for the down hill run into Keighley.
February
February was about going to Sue's fathers sisters funeral, (which was good, if you can say that about funerals?). Going was OK, but coming home was a nightmare, we thought we would never leave Somerset, the average speed up the motorway was about 2 mph and minor accidents littered the way. We managed to get to Ivis and Henry's for a late tea, hours late! The rest of the month was more normal with Sue working hard as usual.
Peeping through the railway viaduct up the river Nibb we see the main road crossing..
March
Took some pictures of the meeting house, to use on the front page of the Bulletin I do for the local meeting. Also took some pictures out side the surgery while waiting for the bus, must have been in for my perscription. In the middle of the month I went in to Leeds late afternoon and had a walk along the river front had a coffee and went to an earley evening meeting with CaRT at there offices. There was probably in the region of some 100 people there. We had a talk from some senior members of CaRT and then a pleasent light tea/supper where we had an opportunity to chat to different senior members of CaRT. They all seemed appreciative of what they were being told. If it made any difference will be hard to tell, but we will see. At the end of the month went for along walk along the canal at Hebdon Bridge, it is always a good place, as you are always assured a good cup of coffee at the end.
Through the bridge hole at Greenberfield locks near Barnaldswick.
April
April starts of with Sue being determined to make her own bread, (see pics of Sue in the Kitchen) this partley due to the fact Sue and one of her friends going on a weekend bread making course. I don't know about the course, but the bread is very good. The hi note for this months is lots of pictures of out grand son, who has just been born, I didn't use the word LITTLE, as he was not! We also spend a weekend with Ivis and Henry and the men go for a walk next to the canal and river Trent. Take some pictures of Henries chickens and some of the items around the house. On one of the evenings we go out to one of there restruants. We set of to Devon from Beeston to see Sue's dad and his wife Sue. On one of the days, Sue and John go for walk to one of the neigbouring costal villages and indulge in a pub lunch while Sue dad gives me a lift into Kinsbridge. I search out the local Quaker Meeting House and take some pictures of it and parts of Kingsbridge I have not seen before. The next day we all met up with Helen, (There son/brothers wife) and went to NT property and looked round the gardens. These places do do nice food, so we did all enjoy a nice time. In the evening we went to . . . for dinner/supper it was a very enjoyable experince all together. The next day we explored Solcombe which John did not know very well, Sue's dad gave us lift there and back as they only live a short distance away. On the last evening we are taken out to a very nice restuant. On the way back we stopped at Clevdon for luch/break from driving for Sue, and had a quick look round, before continuing home. We stopped and a hotel some where north of Brum, (in the middle of a car park.) and then did a quick stop at Stone (Stopped here on the boat) and then went to see Charlie our grandson for the first time.
There be dragons! Well at least in Grassington.
May
A quick visit to NB Dawn to make sure she is OK and then it is the Bank Holiday weekend and Skipton Boat festival. Lots of pics of that, the theme this year is cycling, (not sure why?) There are lots of pictures of grandson but we do not seemed to have done much else, besides another visit to NB Dawn and Skipton.
The canal in Nottingham.
June
June - see's us taking NB Dawn down to Kildwick for a shake out. While on another day I go for walk around Leeds and the canal basin, just to see. We have fun with NB Dawn this month with it escaping its mooring a couple of times, due to) a. the grassing cutting gang cutting through the ropes. b) the ropes been cut by some. Also while out a coolent pipe broke, on fixing that we lost the coolent cap? later found but all part of the fun. This all meant wewhere in and out of Skipton a few times this month. A new path has been laid at the meeting house, so I took some more pictures of the place to record this differences. During the month as we had been using Kildwick quite alot for moring NB Dawn, we have used a small cafe in Cross Hills.
This is north beach - You do not need to take Sue any where, you just leave her to watch the waves come in. Very cheap to take out?
July
July - found me, surprise in Skipton and it was Cleg fest - all things to do with clogs and dancing, including clog dancing competions, I saw the rehersals for the group competions, I think the word is interesting or different. We spent several days movong the boat about and we found "Ken's Seat" next to the canal at Kildwick. Towards the end of the month Richard my brother came up, and we (me and John) went out looking for Quaker places? First stop Starbottom. We stopped looked asked, but no luck the 'site of' meeting house was not found, or burial ground. We then moved on to Scar House at Hubberholme, this is up a steep track, so Richard and John climbed it while I just struggled to the half way point. But they did take some pictures for me. We looked at the local church and then moved on to Aysgarth to the Quaker burial ground there. After one or two minor miss directions we did manage to find it in a well kept state. We then meandered back to settle for coffee and cakes and then back home.
On the KWVR - Oxenhope station.
August
We are with NB Dawn back in Skipton. We take this opportunity to buy some more mooring rope (it is not brilliant, it works, its cheap and we will not mind the mowing gang cutting it to pieces. In the middle of the month Sue takes me out for the afternoon, it means I am bored, she is bored. End up at a converted mill, part of it is appartment, some of it holiday lets, and a awfull lot of funrniture shop with a nice cafe at the top. We had cream scones and coffee, or rather I did, Sue had a none cafine drink. The scones warm and very nice. On one of Sue's travels she had been cought by a speed camera, so now she had to go back to school for the day in Wakefield. We went with her, and spen the day looking around the place. At the end of the month, we took John to Todmordon, to introduce him to the great wall of tod etc. and some nice food. The last weekend of the month was at Ivis and Henry's and Josh and Rachael brought Charlie down on one of the days. We also managed to catch several of Henrys chicken roosting in one of the trees.
Up at the Five Rise cafe. Somewhere that evey one likes.
September
The begining of the month is quite, I travel to Hebdon bridge for my exercise, besides Skipton and the boat. Catch some interesting goings on on Keighley one afternoon, see pictures. . . Most of the excitment this month is saved till the end, when we go away to the south lakes for a long week end.
The lake and Ripley Castle in the distance.
October
What do you do during this month? go to the garden centre of course, we saw this . . . Then later in the month me and John went to Haworth
A small houseboat on the Erewash canal.
November
At the end of last month it was John's birthday and this month starts with mine, so Richard has come up to help us celebrate both. The othe main event is going down to see Ivis and Henry in Beeston.
Charlie driving his tractor round the outside of the house next to the moat.
December
December is all about Christmas and this year it means Charlie. And we are staying with them at Little Moreton Hall. This was Sue's last Christmas, even though we did not know that at the time we were waiting to see the doctor at this point.
the continuing story.
At the end of 2013 Sue came back from India, so 2014 should be a normal year for us! January: We started the new year by saying "Hello" to the boat! why I do not remember - why would we go and see the boat, it must have been happy so we left it alone. (See link at bottom for pictures NB Dawn) We then had Rachael and Josh over before Sue started teaching again. (At this stage she had not done any for a while as she had been away in Inda for 9 weeks or so.) Josh and Rachael take away variety of items of Josh's to help empty his room out. (our house out.) Over the next few weeks I make several trips by bus to look at the boat, oh I am good. While me and Sue spend some wet time in Todmoredon, (its raining). Alot of this is to get me fit again, from the operation in 2013, I am supposed to be doing at least 30 minutes walking, 5 days per week. At least the promise of a coffee and a cake encouages me to go out. The last place I travel by bus to is Hebdon Bridge, but Sue takes me and John to go and see Josh and Rachaels place . . Could you get a better place than this? February - The same weekend we saw Josh and Rachael we moved on to Beeston and met Henry and Ivis, who took us the next night for a posh meal, (see pictures) which was very enjoyable. We were staying at a local B and B Rachel and Josh came over for, in there little car! The following day we made our way off home, taking our long route via Buxton. The next week me and Sue went to Saltaire for a change and went in Saltaire park, just to look at the swollen Aire going past, the bank were struggling to contain the river. This was due to the amount of rain we had been getting up to now. The following week, on the Monday I helped Sue with the chairs at the meeting house, this gives me an earley start, to go to Skipton and then on to Gargrave to see the boat. At the end of the week we also had a little snow. Towards the end of the month we did our usual little trip into the dales, with John, going to Bentham and then on to look at Ribbleshead viaduct and back via Settle and the Naked Man. According to the staff! the name originates from the house being owned by a Quaker wh went out naked! there could be some thing in this, as some very earley Quaker preachers did preach naked, as preachers many different religious views did at the time. This was quickly discouraged, I could just see that happening at meeting, is that why they put central heating in for? Any way we had a good snack and left for home. I also had another cup of coffee at the Five Rise Lock Cafe before the end of this month, must keep this walking up? March - Out in the car and we passed a bus, I know, we very rarley pass anything but we did pass this . . . (see pics.) Took some pictures of the meeting house, to use on the front page of the Bulletin I do for the local meeting. Also took some pictures out side the surgery while waiting for the bus, must have been in for my perscription.
