Recording the events of 2007.
Looking back we seem to have had an active year.
The first of the locks leading down in to Gargrave. (A stormy afternoon.).
January: Last year we had put our names down at four locations for moorings for out boat Dawn, 2 in Yorkshire and 2 in Lancashire, the most you are allowed to request. We then wondering how long we would have to wait, before an offer would come up. Being England and in Yorkshire, the year started as it should, cold, sleet and snow. Being of sound mind if not of limb we stayed indoors and looked at it from the windows. February brought some nicer weather and we spend a weekend with Ivis and Henry down in Beeston (Nottinghamshire). March: At the begining of March we are offered a mooring by British Water Ways - now called Canal and River Trust (CaRT) The mooring were at Bank Newton, we had looked at them last year, but we take another trip to see how we feel about them now, we approched and telephoned British Waterways that we will take it. We attend the local Quaker Meeting in Keighley, and every year a group of them go to Glenthorne a Quaker guest house in the lake district, so this year we join the group to explore the lakes and be looked after. April seems to be excelling itself, warm with bright sun shine. Sue offers to drive us all up into the Dales - So we tale off for the day and do a circular tour, stopping frequently for tea and coffee. See the tour here . . Our garden also seems to be doing well this year, and they cherry blosm tree is looking very good. May, Richard comes with me and John to take the boat upto Skipton. It turns out to be Skiptons waterways festival, we park the boat just out of Skipton, and return the next day to look round. As the garden is doing well, it has inspired Sue to go plant hunting around the garden centre. The following week we bring the boat partly back towards Keighley (Just for the fun of it.) At the end of the month, we book our selves in to a very nice BandB near Leicester and go to the Crick boat festival. At the very end of the month we are of to see Josh at University in Wales and extend the weekend by staying at another BandB before coming home. June see us playing boats again. July sees Robert spending a two week break on our boat with Sat, trundelling up and down the canal localy inbetween the frequent summer showers, see our journey here . . . On a wet day we poped into the church in Skipton, and managed to get some shots of the stained glass windows.
August: Joy our friend from Birmingham comes up to spend a few days with us, on the first day we went to a NT property that is local to us, East Riddlesden Hall, it is one of the smaller NT properties, but still very enjoyable. The next day we went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Josh is home and persuades me to take a walk to St Ives and back. September - Robert takes a scenic walk into Keighley, (it is actualy the quickest one.) Richard my brother comes up from London and stays the weekend and we take a trip out in to the Dales and tale a look at Hellifield Station. and then later, stopping at a favourite watering hole in Settle on the way home. The next day we take to boat out from Gargrave, go for a drive and return to Gargrave, undr the pretext that we neeed to refuel her? October - We seem to have done nothing? November finds us in Birmingham for a weekend, while Sue was doing other things I took a trip down memory lane and walked round the centre of Brum, see it here . . . December has us taking several trips out. Firstly to take Josh to his caving group in the Dales, but have spare time so we visit Ingleton as it is in the area. Secondly we go to York, to the railway museum.
